Google. That’s a company everyone knows about. Google has changed the way people access information and learn. It is the number one search engine individuals use in their everyday lives. They have also expanded the Google brand by offering products such as phones, laptops, and other accessories.
In 2019, it is estimated that there are over 63,000 searches made per second on Google. This means there are over 5.5 billion searches done a day. Not surprisingly, making Google the market leader. Google currently owns over 90% of the market share.
Having a powerful search engine such as Google has expanded the way we learn and have access to information at the click of a button. The question now is, how did Google come to be? The idea of creating Google began with Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
How They Met
Before Larry Page and Sergey Brin met, they both had developed an interest in technology at a very young age.
Larry Page’s interest in technology began when his father gave him a computer at an early age of six. He pursued computer science at the University of Michigan and received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and concentration in Computer Engineering. He later pursued a Ph.D. in computer science at Stanford University. This is where he met Sergey Brin.
Sergey Brin met Larry Page, when he was assigned to be his tour guide and show him around the Stanford campus. Brin, originally from Moscow moved to the U.S. at the age of six. Brin received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maryland. At Stanford, he was studying large amounts of data.
It Started with an Idea
It was said that Larry Page and Sergey Brin disagreed on almost everything when they first met. They eventually became friends and Brin joined in on Page’s BackRub research project. They were working on the BackR ub research project which was developing a search engine. They eventually renamed the search engine to Google.
The name Google originated from the mathematical term Googol. The term Googol means a very large number. They wanted to choose that name to signify the infinite amount of data the search engine can provide. The name Googol was meant to be the name they changed the search engine to however, there was a typo. When they went to register for the domain, the name was misspelled and Google stuck.
By 1998, Google became extremely popular and started generating 10,000 searches a day. Page and Brin decided to pursue Google and created a business plan. From then on, Google has been nothing but successful. Fast forward to 2008, and as a company, Google generated a revenue of $5.37B.

Besides its search engine, Google has a variety of different applications that you may also be aware of. Google has made itself essential for everyday use in being a search engine and also providing individuals with numerous useful applications.

Google Images allows for users to search for images on the web. The Google Play Store comes pre-installed into Android devices. Through the Google Play Store, users can download games and other phone applications.

Google also has a variety of different products they offer to the public. They have products such as the Google Pixel, home assistant products such as Google Home, cameras, and Pixel tablets.
The Google Pixel is an electronics brand created by Google. The Pixel line included phones, laptops, tablets, and other accessories. The Pixel 4 is Google’s newest phone and it set to start shipping the new phone on October 24, 2019. Google Assistant, a phone voice-controller is also included in the phone.
Google LLC
Google LLC was founded in 1998 at a garage in Menlo Park. Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
In 2018 Google LLC generated a revenue of 116B. Most of the revenue made from google is just made from advertisements. They make much of their money from their Google products and pay-per-click advertisements on their site. As of April 2019, Google has over 103,549 employees.

Google continues to be the most advanced and most used search engine in the world. It is the number one search engine in the world and intakes 90% of the search traffic.
Google currently owns Youtube and Android. They continue to search for new opportunities to grow and expand their company. They have been entering new industries and have tried to go above their competitors such as Apple and Microsoft.
Google seeks innovation. Google has built its own self-driving car. The self-driving car is electric and has no pedals and no steering wheel. So far, it can go up to 100 miles.
The creation of Google has helped simplified our lives in searching for information. We can ask any question or merely type in a word and Google provides us with information pertaining to what we searched.
